Assessment of Drought
Conditions for 2008
The Left Hand Water District’s
Drought Contingency Plan outlines
four stages of water shortage conditions, and criteria to be used
to determine the severity of potential water shortage in the system.
If on May1st of the year the annual projected supply available to
the District through March 31st of the following year is less than
120% of the anticipated annual demand, the Plan calls for various
levels of response to conserve water.
Due to the average snowpack conditions in our Lefthand watershed,
yield of 70% on our CBT water, and the average storage in the Left
Hand Ditch System, our supply meets the anticipated demand by more
than 120%. We have concluded that we do NOT have a water shortage
condition at this time according to the Plan. Therefore, neither
mandatory nor voluntary water restrictions are indicated at this
time.
Of course, water shortage may be caused
by conditions other than drought, and may be localized in certain
areas. We will constantly monitor both supply and demand and may
revise our recommendations based on further criteria in the plan.
